How to Choose Materials for Outdoor Advertising

Selecting the correct material is a key factor in the longevity and effectiveness of your signs. In this article, we break down the main types of materials to help you make an informed decision.

Banner fabric (cast PVC) is the most common material for outdoor advertising. It varies by density:

DensityApplicationLifespan
280 g/m²Short-term promotions, indoor6-12 months
440 g/m²Standard outdoor signs2-3 years
510 g/m²Long-term installations, roof signs3-5 years

When to choose a banner:

  • Large areas (from 3 m²)
  • Temporary installations
  • Limited budget

Self-Adhesive Films

Oracal films are the industry standard for wrapping smooth surfaces. There are two main types:

Calendered (Oracal 641)

  • Thickness: 75 µm
  • Durability: 3-4 years
  • Application: flat surfaces, indoor
  • Price: ★☆☆ (budget)

Cast (Oracal 3951)

  • Thickness: 50 µm
  • Durability: 7-10 years
  • Application: complex curves, car wrapping, facades
  • Price: ★★★ (premium)

Tip: Always use cast film for vehicle branding. Calendered film will shrink over rivets and recessed details.

Sheet Materials

PVC (Foamed)

Ideal for signs, letters, and indoor elements. Easy to mill on a CNC machine.

Acrylic (Plexiglas)

The best choice for illuminated signs. Opal acrylic evenly diffuses light from LED modules.

Alucobond (Composite)

Aluminum sandwich panels for facade works. Maximum rigidity with minimal weight.
